Before you go

Travel info

Everything you need to know to enjoy Keyodhoo without a worry.

🛂 Passport & Visa

An electronic passport is required: for validity requirements, please check your own government's official travel advice. Children must have their own individual passport. The tourist visa is free, valid for 30 days and issued at the airport before passport control; before departure, remember to fill in the IMUGA online traveller declaration.

☀️ 30° all year round

A constant average temperature of 30 °C thanks to the equatorial location; at night it never drops below 25–26 °C. Every month is the right month to go.

🕐 Time zone: UTC+5

The Maldives are 5 hours ahead of GMT/UTC, with no daylight saving time: that's 4 hours ahead of Central Europe in winter and 3 in summer. Keep it in mind for transfers and calls.

💵 Cash at the guesthouse

  • Euros and US dollars accepted
  • No card payments at the guesthouse: please pay in cash
  • ATM available for cash withdrawals
  • Currency exchange on site (EUR–Rufiyaa): ask the Blu Lodge manager

👗 Casual & respectful

T-shirts, sarongs, cotton and linen. Keyodhoo is a predominantly Muslim island: outside the guesthouse women must cover up with a kaftan or skirt, and men must wear a T-shirt. SPF 50+ sunscreen and a hat are essential. Fins and mask are a must for excursions!

🔌 220–240 Volt

220–240 V power, compatible with Italian and European plugs. Our rooms have universal sockets: no adapters needed.

🏥 No vaccinations required

No vaccinations are compulsory. Sunscreen and insect repellent are recommended. The island has a medical clinic with a doctor always available.

🏙️ Pit stop in Malé

Before your flight home, we can arrange a tour of Malé so you can get to know the city and spend a few fun hours with our Fazil.

🛍️ Crafts & nightlife

Hand-painted sarongs and T-shirts, wooden fish and handicrafts in the little local shops. On the island: two diving centres, water sports, a spa and a beauty salon. In the evening there are local and international cafés and bars — among the best are Rock'n'Reel and Hassan & Francesca's OceanBar Pizzeria. These venues accept cards, euros, rufiyaa and US dollars (notes issued after 2016).

🛏️ Everything you need

In your room: beach towels, bath towels, minibar with water, kettle with tea and instant coffee, hairdryer on request. We're on a local island and we don't like to pollute: we change towels and bed linen twice a week — if you need fresh ones, just leave them on the bathroom floor.

🚫 Do not bring

  • Alcohol, drugs, pork, weapons, explosives
  • Pornographic material or non-Islamic religious publications
  • On departure: exporting coral, shells, mother-of-pearl and sand is prohibited
  • On the island: alcohol and spearfishing are prohibited

🗣️ We speak English & Italian

The official language is Dhivehi. Our staff speak English and Italian; the general manager is fluent in Italian.

🕌 Islamic roots

Before the 12th century the Maldives were Buddhist. The conversion to Islam is credited to the scholar Abul Barakat who, according to legend, defeated the sea demon Rannamaari by reciting the Quran. Islam has been the state religion ever since.
